So, I own a Mk6 Jetta and spend a fair amount of time messing around on Vwvortex. But I’ve noticed something doesn’t seem quite right

What have I noticed?

Everybody is really nice, responsive and supportive. Nobody judges people with stock, base model cars and everybody talks to each other like they should. After all, all of us share our cars in common and should talk to each other nicely.

Occasionally, somebody with tinted tails OR even somebody who has a hideous overly lowered car with ugly wheels will be flamed a bit. But if you tint your tails 95% of bottom out on pocket change, then you kinda have it coming.

It’s the complete opposite of the Mk4 Jetta forum. Like literally polar opposites of that section.

That’s why I usually end up with either responding “fuck you” or some other poorly thought out nonsense, haha.

the older the average owner is, the more civil the conversations are.

Us C5 dudes are all buddies :)

That’s true, hah. Most of the Mk6 people are 17-35 or so it seems.

The C5 section on Audizine was pretty civil, as was the B5 section. I still keep in touch with a couple guys from each.

You got another one right?

That is because Mk6 drivers don’t have that “I’m an OG, I’ve owned 10 of these cars over 15 years and know everything about them” attitude that Mk4 guys have.

Are these MK4 VWVortex users even 15 years old?

Well yeah, because that’s the best reponse to any situation.

The average Mk4 Vortex tough guy is in their late 20's, early 30's, and have only recently moved out of their parents house, because buying a new set of BBS every year isn’t cheap. They’ve owned at least one of each body style/engine combo, except 2.slows and haven’t missed a Waterfest or H2O since 2003. Their Vortex signature used to read “bags are for fags”, but since 2012 they have spent ~$6k slamming three different GTIs with air ride. They know every Mk4 paint code and the exact production numbers and years the special editions ran. They have bought so many spare O2 sensors and coil packs over the years, they randomly find them hidden away all over their house. And lastly, if you talk shit on any VW and try to come in here with some BMW or ricer POS they will flame you with the power of the sun times their camber angle.

I’m a Mk7 Golf owner, so the forums are 1/2 old guys asking how their new wheels look and 1/2 electrical engineers VAGCOM’ing really specific lighting tweaks.

When I was active on Subaru forums, basically everything were articles like “how to rebuild your turbo using a toilet paper roll and some wire”

And CrownVic.net was frickin brutal if you missed a car in a way that wasn’t socially acceptable.

Hah, I know that feel.

LED ALL THE ACCESSORY LIGHTING!!!

The only thread I like to pay attention to on the Mk7 section of VWVortex is the Project Schwartz 1.8TSI, though there hadn’t been an update in a bit when I checked last.

I defaulted to AudiWorld. The Audizine and Audiforum folks, at least on the C6 boards tended to be rude and answered most questions with “take it to the dealers for a diagnosis” and “if you can afford a car like this, you can afford to take it to the dealers”.. (me coming to the realization that I can’t in fact afford to maintain a C6 is besides the point.)

That’s not entirely true. The average age of a Fiero owner nowadays has to be pushing 60, and man, Fiero.nl forums can get into some pretty uncivil discussions.

And the crazy part is, this description has fit for the 15 or so years MKIVs have been around. The cars get older but the owners all seem to stay the same age.

Edit: new kinja game, try to figure out what comment I was actually trying to reply to!

What kind of mods did you add bro? You thinking about making that a VR6T? You smoke any M3s lately?

Raceland coil overs, the cheap ones, hub adapters with B5 S4 wheels. I ended up ripping the racelands out after a year to put in K&W static height adjustable dampening with mildly lower than stock H&R springs. No budget left for mods after constantly buying wheel bearings

So yeah it was a dark time but I haven't lowered a car since
